3 SIGNS OF AGING (AND HOW TO PREVENT THEM)
Signs of aging are generally caused by a combination of genes and lifestyle. There’s not a whole lot we can do about the genetic factors, but thanks to science and research there’s plenty we can do about the lifestyle factors. Here are three of the most common signs of aging, and a few ways to keep them at bay.

Cause: Wrinkles are a natural part of aging caused by the breakdown of collagen and elastin fibers and the pull of gravity, but there are outside factors that cause them as well. Perhaps the most common causes of wrinkles that you can prevent include sun damage and smoking.
Solution: If you’re a smoker, it’s vital that you quit as soon as possible. The damage caused by smoking goes deeper than your skin and could have serious repercussions to your overall health. If you’re not a smoker, there are plenty of wrinkle treatments out there, such as dermabrasion, laser treatments and botox that can be effective in the short term. There are also longer term at-home solutions such as toners, moisturizers and vitamin treatments that can be very effective when used correctly.
2. Sun Spots
Cause: Excessive exposure to the sun can cause serious damage to your skin, including early signs of aging such as wrinkles and sun spots.
Solution: Always wear SPF 15 or higher if you’re going to be exposed to UV rays. You can read the new FDA sunscreen guidelines and some sun safety tips here. If sun spots have already developed on your skin, there are prescription and over-the-counter treatments available to help even out your complexion and fade the appearance of sun spots.
3. Dry Skin
Cause: Dry skin becomes more common (and more troublesome) with aging, causing deeper wrinkles and more sagging due to lack of elasticity.
Solution: In case we haven’t been clear, avoiding sun damage and kicking your smoking habit are two very important steps to solving your skin woes – but there are a few other things you can be doing. What’s happening to your skin is often a reflection of your inner health, so make sure to drink lots of water and maintain a healthy, well-balanced diet. You should also keep your skin clean and try to exfoliate and moisturize regularly. Here are a few more tips on how to achieve younger-looking skin.
